Invisibility Techology

I am so intrigued and excited by the idea of Invisibility technology and I’m not even sure that it’s true!

Apparently, not only the Japanese, but also the Americans and other scientists are working on invisibility clothing.

Primarily, and unfortunately, the use of invisibility is in war. It is now possible for scientists to make parts of an aeroplane invisible to radar. This is not the same as invisibility to the naked eye. However it is apparently important to cloak some parts of a stealth bomber with invisibility magic.

There are also rumours that scientists at the Duke University have created an invisible cloak using meta materials. This may well be true but as it is on the Internet I am not that sure!!!!

I have however downloaded what appears to be a scientific paper from the New Journal of Physics. Texan scientists have reported their experiments.

Here is the abstract from January 2012.

Abstract. We report the experimental verification of metamaterial cloaking for a 3D object in free space. We apply the plasmonic cloaking technique, based on scattering cancellation, to suppress microwave scattering from a finite-length dielectric cylinder. We verify that scattering suppression is obtained all around the object in the near- and far-field and for different incidence angles, validating our measurements with analytical results and full-wave simulations. Our near- field and far-field measurements confirm that realistic and robust plasmonic metamaterial cloaks may be realized for elongated 3D objects with moderate transverse cross-section at microwave frequencies.

Once again this appears to be microwave, not visible light. I am yet to find verification for the claim that Japanese scientists have created an invisibility cloak, that renders a person invisible to visible light.

However the images on the Internet are a lot of fun! What do you think about the idea?
